DOWNTOWN HISTORIC TUCSON—SHOPPING AT OLD TOWN ARTISANS

Tucson is a city with an exciting and colorful past – rich in Native American, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo culture. Our downtown has neighborhoods where the history has been well preserved with Sonoran, Mission Revival, and Victorian style buildings. The first stop on this historic tour is the newly restored El Presidio Historic District. This residential neighborhood contains adobe and brick buildings in the Spanish-Mexican, Anglo-American and Eclectic architectural styles. The El Presidio Historic District reflects Tucson's development from an 18th-century Spanish colonial walled compound to its emergence as a major 20th-century mercantile center.

After visiting the El Presidio Historic District, you will tour the Arizona Historical Society’s Downtown Museum. The Arizona Historical Society is Arizona’s oldest cultural organization, founded by the territorial legislature in 1864, and charged with preserving Arizona history for the present and future. The downtown museum houses the "History in the Heart of Tucson" exhibit, spanning the two centuries from Tucson's origins as a Spanish Presidio in 1775 to the modern era.

After exploring the history of Tucson, your guests will enjoy some shopping time at Old Town Artisans, located in the El Presidio Historic District and adjacent to the Tucson Museum of Art. Old Town is a restored adobe structure (circa 1860), which displays unique, beautifully handcrafted works of art. Old Town offers guests an ever-changing collection of quality, handmade arts and fine crafts, pottery and clay art, and imports from Mexico, Central and South America.

This tour is approximately 6 hours and is inclusive of round trip transportation, admissions where applicable, living Historians bottled water on board, and a JW Marriott Starr Pass Destination Services Guide throughout. This tour is a rain or shine event.
