In strong>Trap shooting, a single target is hurled from one trap. The five contestants in each group will fire at 25 targets (five rounds in a rotation) from a series of five shooting positions located 16 yards behind the trap. At a signal from a shooter, the clay target is hurled forward into the air, away from the firing line. In order to simulate the unpredictable flight patterns of birds taking wing, the targets are sprung out of the trap at various angles and in various directions (straight, left, right, hard left, hard right, etc. The clay pigeons rise to a minimum height of about 10ft and, unless hit, fall to the ground about 150ft from the trap.
