« Back to Starr Destinations Tours

Your afternoon will begin your group travels from the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort to Sonoita, AZ. As you travel, you will notice a distinct change as you rise in elevation and experience the lovely prairie grasslands of the area. Your naturalist/guide will share the history of Sonoita as well as the founding of the wineries while en route.

Your first stop in Sonoita is at the Sonoita Vineyards. Dr. Dutt, a former Professor of Agriculture at the University of Arizona, was one of the brave pioneers that planted the first wine grape vineyard in the state back in 1973. The vineyard is home to Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Mission grapes. Upon arrival you will enjoy a tour of the winery as the founders talk about all the aspects of wine making. Their 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon won “best red” at the 2006 Governor’s Choice Awards.

Next, your group will visit the Kief Joshua Vineyards, a small family business that is situated on 20 acres in beautiful Elgin, Arizona, right in the middle of what has become known as "winery row." Their first planting was in 2005 consisting of ten different varieties: Tempranillo, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Fran c, Chenin Blanc, Syrah, Zinfandel, Reisling, Semillion and Viognier. Kief-Joshua Vineyards is a winery defined by family, passion and enthusiasm. They are committed to winemaking that will exceed your expectations.

This tour is approximately 6 hours and is inclusive of admissions where applicable, souvenir wine glass, wine tasting experience, bottled water on board, and a JW Marriott Starr Pass Destination Services Guide throughout. This tour is a rain or shine event.
